Liz Kruger.

Liz Kruger is a singer-songwriter, guitarist, music educator, and song-leader. Her musical career began in her native city of Buffalo, New York and continued in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Since her arrival in Washington, DC in 1984, Liz has served as the musician-in-residence at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington that is now part of the Charles E. Smith Life Communities. She leads Oneg Shabbat celebrations, weekly interactive sing-a-longs, and entertains for special events at the Hebrew Home, Revitz House, Ring House, and Landow House.

Specializing in Yiddish, Hebrew and Russian folk songs, Jewish holiday selections and inter-generational programs, Liz has touched the hearts of hundreds of residents and family members with her music and manner. As one resident said, “You add life to our days and days to our life”.

Shabbat Shalom from the Hebrew Home is Liz’s first solo album produced by Lifeline Songs.  It will include upbeat musical arrangements of Hebrew, Yiddish and English songs for Shabbat. 

Liz has been Music Director of Har Shalom Religious School in Potomac, Maryland since 1997, and has led High Holiday and Shabbat family services.  

Starting in 2000, Liz has served as Master Music Educator for the Washington Partnership for Jewish Life and Learning. She taught graduate-level classes for music teachers from around the region covering all aspects of Jewish music education and has presented at many professional conferences.

Liz was the Music Specialist at Camp JCC of Greater Washington from 1998 – 2006 where she led music activities and ruach-filled Oneg Shabbats for both campers and staff.

In September 1998, Liz founded the instrumental music program at the Berman Hebrew Academy, a modern Orthodox day school, in Rockville, Maryland and served as the Program Coordinator for eight years. For two years during this time, Liz also served as the Director of the Berman Hebrew Academy High School Girls Choir.

As a popular American, Hebrew and Yiddish folksinger, she has participated in many local Jewish community celebration, festivals, rallies and holiday events. In addition to performing at the Hebrew Home, Liz sings at many other senior residences across the region.

Liz and her husband David are the proud parents of three daughters – Zahava, Naomi and Shoshana. 

In all of her musical work, Liz brings passion and commitment for Ahavat Yisrael.  Her gift is a spark for the Jewish soul, a light for young and old alike.
